On September 15, 2010, ICE published its regulation entitled: "Employment Authorization for Haitian F-1 Nonimmigrant Students Experiencing Severe Economic Hardship as a Direct Result of the January 12, 2010 Earthquake in Haiti".
- The Notice was published in the "Federal Register" of September 15, 2010 and is effective immediately. It will remain in effect until July 22, 2011.
- ICE also published a News Release, and a set of questions and answers entitled "Forms".
- USCIS published a fact sheet entitled "Relief for Haitian F-1 Students".

In response to questions regarding immigration status for nationals of Haiti who were affected by the earthquake of January 12, 2010, the USCIS New York District Office held a community meeting on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 to address the various types of relief available.

The Department of Homeland Security has announced temporary relief measures that will be made available to those nationals of Haiti who are unable to return to their home country due to the earthquake that struck on January 12, 2010 or are currently traveling in the United States.

Increased Security for Travelers
from 14 Countries
January 4, 2010
Citizen travelers of fourteen countries, as well as those other countries passing through the 14 will receive full body pat downs and extra scrutiny of carry-on baggage. Whole body scanning where available will also be used. The 14 countries are: Afghanistan, Algeria, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. Nigeria, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are the new official entries on the list. For several years "Second Screening" had already been in effect for 12 countries but without publicity.
