On September 15, 2010, ICE published its regulation entitled: "Employment Authorization for Haitian F-1 Nonimmigrant Students Experiencing Severe Economic Hardship as a Direct Result of the January 12, 2010 Earthquake in Haiti".

  • The Notice was published in the "Federal Register" of September 15, 2010 and is effective immediately.  It will remain in effect until July 22, 2011.
  • ICE also published a News Release, and a set of questions and answers entitled "Forms".
  • USCIS published a fact sheet entitled "Relief for Haitian F-1 Students".

Increased Security for Travelers
from 14 Countries
January 4, 2010

Citizen travelers of fourteen countries, as well as those other countries passing through the 14 will receive full body pat downs and extra scrutiny of carry-on baggage.  Whole body scanning where available will also be used.  The 14 countries are: Afghanistan, Algeria, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.  Nigeria, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are the new official entries on the list.  For several years "Second Screening" had already been in effect for 12 countries but without publicity.  For a more detailed account - click here for a New York Times article summarizing the intensified screening.
